1972 Graffiti

I’ve always been fascinated by graffiti. In 1956 I used a broken 7UP bottle to scratch my name on the platform wall of the K&A stop of the Frankford El. I also remember adding my moniker to the Midway, Wishart, Iris, and Kent Movie Theaters. Outside of a few minor instances, I lost interest in doing graffiti but still enjoyed looking at it – especially the most vulgar kind and then later on, the more philosophical/political stuff. Nowadays, the aesthetic intrigues me more than the message.
In 1972, I made a series of graffiti panels – LOWLIFE. They ranged from 24 by 24 to 48 by 48 inches. Their whereabouts today are unknown.
