2011-2013 On Your Own

Computer Generated Images 2011 to 2013
 On Your On

These CGI works reflect my on-going investigation into a surreal world of personal mythology, inspired by ancient civilizations and the natural world. The images depict a stylized limbless figure and an ambiguous reflective sphere, situated in or floating above water that mirrors a richly colored sky.

The objects that feature in my works are reminiscent of the ancient monuments towering within and against a vast landscape, such as the Stonehenge in England, the Great Sphinx of Egypt, and the Moai of Easter Island. Why, how, and for whom were they created, and what function did they serve? Archaeologists and historians have continued to debate these questions yet are unable to agree on an explanation. The mystery behind these ancient creations leaves us wondering in awe, while also allowing us to imagine how humans long ago conceived their relation to the earthly and the divine world. These imagined notions about the past, in turn, help us to understand something about ourselves and the society we live in today.

The images are enigmatic, prompting viewers to reflect on their own place in the world and to create their own personal mythology. In particular, the figures are at times fronted by a reflection of themselves in an empty waterscape. All this hints at the aloneness of our individual existence.
