During the summer of 1971, I started to make more and more life masks of friends and Academy students. I made more than a hundred faces and dozens of full body casts using plaster gauze - the type used in hospitals to mend broken bones. I bought rolls of this material from various medical supply stores in Philadelphia at that time. Nowadays this product is available in most art supply stores. Throughout the 70’s, I continued to work on these sculptures. Over the years, I sold, gave away or lost most of this work. Fortunately, I have photographs of several of these pieces.
